FAMILY COURT EVALUATIONS

The need for legal decisions regarding child custody and parenting arrangements can result from a variety of circumstances including divorce, neglect or abuse proceedings, and termination of parental rights.  Together, Dr. Connor and Dr. Jones-Connor conduct thorough evaluations to assist the courts in determining the best interests of children.  These include:

Custodial Evaluations – A wealth of information about children and their families is gathered through interviews, observations, home visits, psychological testing and document review. A comprehensive report and recommendations are prepared to assist the courts in determining appropriate custody arrangements.

Relocation Evaluations – In today’s mobile society, divorced or separated parents often seek to relocate to a distant city or another state with their child(ren). The court frequently refers families for evaluations to determine if it is in the best interests of their child(ren) to relocate. The methodology for relocation evaluations is similar to that of child custody evaluations.

Parenting Assessments – The courts and child protective services often request evaluations to determine parenting fitness.  Psychological testing, interviews and observations are conducted to assess for psychological symptoms or disorders that may impede effective parenting.

Visitation Evaluations – When a parent and child(ren) undergo a prolonged separation for various reasons, the courts may request a visitation evaluation.  The goal is to determine if reunification is appropriate and if so, how the reunification/visitation process should proceed.  Various psychological assessments, interviews and observations are utilized to make appropriate recommendations.
